She will also be at an advantage to run toward you if she has the chance. In some variations of the tale, she can be distracted by fruit or candies thrown at her which she will then pick up, thus giving the victim a chance to run. Another escape route is to tell her one has a previous engagement she will pardon her manners and excuse herself. Unsure of what to do, she will give a person enough time to escape while she is lost in thought. Some sources say she can also be confused by the victim answering her question with ambiguous answers, such as "You are average" or "So-so". When the legend reappeared, the 1970s rumors of ways to escape also emerged. It is impossible to run away from her, as she will simply reappear in front of the victim. If the person answers yes, then she will slit his/her mouth like hers. If the they answers yes, the woman pulls away the mask, revealing that her mouth is slit from ear to ear, and asks "How about now?" If the they answers no, he/she will die. The woman will ask someone, "Am I pretty?" If they answers no, they are killed with a pair of scissors which the woman carries. Īccording to the legend, she walks around wearing a surgical mask. She was then hit by a car, and died shortly after. Recent sightings include many reports in South Korea in the year 2004 about a woman wearing a red mask who was frequently seen chasing children, and, in October 2007, a coroner found some old records from the late 1970s about a woman who was chasing little children. There are even reports of schools allowing children to go home only in groups escorted by teachers for safety, and of police increasing their patrols.
When rumors of alleged sightings began spreading in 1979 around the Nagasaki Prefecture, it spread throughout Japan and caused panic in many towns. She is a woman who was mutilated by her husband, and returns as a malicious spirit. Initially, Sumireko did not appear in Gensokyo Reloaded outside of a cameo appearance in the Outside World stage however, it was later announced that Sumireko would be added to the game's roster as a playable character in a future update, alongside Tenshi Hinanawi.Kuchisake-onna (口裂け女 ?, "Slit-Mouthed Woman") is a figure appearing in Japanese urban legends. In Touhou: Gensokyo Reloaded Main article: Sumireko Usami (Gensokyo Reloaded) Being unable to fully stay inside Gensokyo, she decided to scatter the Occult Balls in order to prolong her stay, which ultimately led to the spread of urban legends in Gensokyo and causing the events of Urban Legend in Limbo due to inadvertently creating a doppelganger of herself in the aftermath of this incident, Sumireko is now able to freely travel to Gensokyo whenever she dreams, with her original body in the Outside World and her doppelganger in Gensokyo both sharing the same consciousness. Sumireko is a high school student living in the Kanto region of Japan in the Outside World, who possesses psychic powers including ESP in part due to these powers, Sumireko has a fascination with the occult and the paranormal, which ultimately led to her discovery of Gensokyo after collecting the Occult Balls from various mystery spots in the Outside World. She was first introduced in Urban Legend in Limbo as both the main antagonist and final boss, as well as a playable character, and later as the main character of Violet Detector, as well as a recurring character in the series. Sumireko Usami is a high-school student from Touhou Project.
